BALLYMENA and PROVINCIAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE MATCH REPORTS Season 2019-20 WEEK-ENDING 24th AUGUST 2019

A full list of league fixtures was played mid-week which has given us a very good start to the season. Saturday saw Nine teams competing in the County Antrim Steel & Sons Cup 2nd Round and it was another successful day for most of our teams.

Unfortunately with Glebe Rangers v Donegal Celtic we lost one team but wins for Wakehurst, Ballynure OB, Ballymoney United and St James Swifts against Amateur League opposition was good though Chimney Corner lost by the odd goal in nine against Malachians while Brantwood lost by the only goal in the game against Crumlin Star. Belfast Celtic also had a comfortable win over Lower Maze.

A full list of league fixtures including mid-week are planned for the incoming week and this will see the mid-week fixtures completed

INTERMEDIATE LEAGUE

Mid-Week Games

BALLYNURE OB 2-2 WAKEHURST

Wakehurst took the lead after Jason Paul scored on the 2nd minute and held this lead at half-time. Wakehurst increased their lead after Andy Loughlin scored on the 65th minute. Kyle Abernethy got a goal back for Ballynure on the 70th minute before Bobby Crowe scored the equaliser with a free kick on the 93rd minute.

CHIMNEY CORNER 2-3 GLEBE RANGERS

Glebe went in front after Davy Reid scored on the 21st minute then saw Reece Gilmour score the equaliser for the Corner on the 43rd minute. Glebe went in front for a second time after Davy Reid scored his second goal on the 45th minute then completed his hat -trick on the 77th minute. Time was almost up when Steve Cummings scored a second goal for the Corner on the 89th minute. Referee Mr. Paul Douglas

DUNLOY 5-1 BALLYMONEY UNITED

After a steady start by both teams Dunloy hit a purple patch with Duane Scott scoring on the 35th minute followed by Caolan Gillen on the 40th and Declan McGarry on the 69th minute. Neil McNicholl made it four nil on the 75th minute then Caolan Gillen made it five on the 88th minute before Trevor Parkhill scored for Ballymoney on the 89th minute. Referee Mr. Gary Thompson

BELFAST CELTIC 2-1 BRANTWOOD

The Celtic went in front after Gary Warwick scored on the 11th minute and held this lead at half-time. Celtic then went two goals in front after Mark Clarke scored on the 61st minute then on the 90th minute Darren Hamilton scored for Brantwood. Referee Mr. Barry Devenney

COAGH UNITED 2-0 COOKSTOWN RBL

Coagh went in front after James Ferguson converted a penalty on the 31st minute and held this lead at half-time. RBL then had a man sent off on the 56th minute then conceded a second goal when Bailey Leonard scored for Coagh on the 86th minute. Referee Mr. Simon Mackay

COOKSTOWN YOUTH 5-2 DESERTMARTIN

The Youth went in front after Mark Megarry scored on the 9th minute before Ryan Brown scored the equaliser for the Martins on the 32nd minute. Mark Megarry scored his second goal on the 40th minute then Ryan Brown equalised on the 48th minute. The Youth went on to score another three goals through Stefan Shields 51st, Mark Megarry 66th to complete his hat-trick and Mark Larmour 83rd minutes without reply.

DONEGAL CELTIC 1-9 St JAMES SWIFTS

The Swifts raced into a Five goal lead with all the goals being scored by Jim Herrington followed by Two goals scored by Martin Murray and a goal each for Ryan McAuley and Conor Doran before Malachy Harbison scored a solitary go for Celtic. Referee Mr. Conor Murphy

Saturday League Games

COAGH UNITED 3-3 DUNLOY

Dunloy took the lead after scored on the 20th minute then Steven Hogshaw equalised for Coagh on the 39th minute. Coagh went in front after Stefan Thompson scored on the 56th minute then equalised for Dunloy on the 73rd minute. Coagh went in front for a third time after Mark Kelly scored on the 87th minute but Dunloy came back to equalise after scored in stoppage time. Referee Mr. Damien Maguire

DESERTMARTIN 2-2 COOKSTOWN RBL

After a good start by both teams Rui Lanzinha scored on the 16th minute putting RBL in front then Pierce McLarnon equalised for the Martins on the 19th minute. Half-time saw the teams still level then on the 67th minute Stuart McIlhatton put the Martins in front. RBL came back with Rui Lanzinha scoring his second goal on the 78th minute to give both teams a point each. Referee Mr. Jerome McElroy

CAFA Steel & Sons Cup 2nd Round

WAKEHURST 5-2 1st BANGOR OB

Wakehurst went a goal behind on the 5th minute then conceded a second on the 20th minute. Wakehurst got back into they game after Darren Kidd scored on the 36thmi9nute then were back level after Jason Paul scored on the 46th minute. Wakehurst went in front after Jack Walsh scored on the 75th minute followed by two more goals scored by Jason Paul and David Hanna on the 80th and 88th minutes giving them a place away to 18th Newtownabbey in the 3rd Round.

BALLYNURE OB 3-0 BRYANSBURN RANGERS

Ballynure went in at half-time leading by two goals scored by Marc Lecky and David Higgins then in the second half a second goal scored by David Higgins sealed the win for the Nure. Ballynure are now away to Comber Rec in the 3rd Round

GLEBE RANGERS 2-0 DONEGAL CELTIC

Glebe had to play well against rejuvenated Celtic team who came into the match after two heavy losses. Glebe went on front after Luke Mitchell scored then sealed then win with a second goal scored by Davy Reid. Glebe have been drawn away against fellow towns people Ballymoney United in the 3rd Round

MALACHIANS 5-4 CHIMNEY CORNER

What a game a nine-goal thriller with the scoring going one way then the other. Malachians took a two-goal lead with goals scored on the 10th and 15th minutes. Corner came back with Reece Gilmour scoring on the 22nd Minute and Mark Butler on the 25th minute. Reece Gilmour scored his second goal on the 28th minute putting the Corner if front. The teams were back level again when Malachians scored on the 55th minute then Malachians went in front on the 70th followed by Reece Gilmour equalising on the 83rd minute only to see Malachians get the winning goal on the 88th minute.

LOWER MAZE 1-5 BELFAST CELTIC

Celtic made their overall play count in this cup tie scoring five against their opponents one. Celtic goals were scored by Darren Stuart, Francis Dugan, Kevin Lynch, Brendan Shannon and Gary Warwick taking them away to Rosario YFC in the 3rd Round.

CRUMLIN STAR 1-0 BRANTWOOD

The Star one of the favourites to win the Trophy were certainly pushed all the way by a good performance from Brantwood. No Goals were scored during the first half then Star scored on the 70th minute. Brantwood were then of the opinion they were hard dene by on the 80th minute when they had what they thought was the equaliser but was disallowed by the Referee for Offside.

BALLYMONEY UNITED 3-0 SHORTS

With Glebe Rangers also at home this game was switched to Shorts ground, but this did not deter Ballymoney who went into a two-goal lead with goals scored by James Reddich. Ballymoney then sealed the win after Nicky Kerr scored their third goal giving them a home Draw against neighbours Glebe Rangers in the 3rd Round.

ABBEY VILLA 1-1 (aet) St JAMES SWIFTS (St James win 4-2 on Penalties)

This was the second Saturday on the trot for the teams to meet after St James had won 4-1 at home in the Irish Cup. This time round it was a lot different with St James going in front after Ronan Hamill scored on the 20th

minute then saw the Villa equalise on the 40th minute. St James then had a man sent off on the 65th minute but defended well with no more goals being scored in the game. Penalties were then taken which St James won 4-2 giving them a home draw against Ballymacash Rangers in the 3rd round.

WEEKEND ROUND UP W/E 17/08/2019 Saturday saw Twelve of our teams competing in the 1st Round of the Irish Cup and at the end of play it was a successful day for the league.
