MATCH REPORTS

Week-ending Saturday 17th February 2024

Three games were lost, and one game abandoned at half time due to the wet conditions on Saturday.

However, it was good day for Strabane Athletic and Newbuildings United who have won through to the Quarter Finals of the IFA Intermediate Cup.

Hopefully both teams escape each other and receive a home draw when it is made.

INTERMEDIATE

LEAGUE

GROUP A

DONEGAL CELTIC 8 - 0 CHIMNEY CORNER

Celtic went in front through an OG on the 13th minute. Another five goals scored by Philip McPeake 19th, Brendan Glackin 27th and 42nd, Pierce Arteton 29th, and James Mullan 30th minutes saw Celtic six goals clear at half-time. Two more goals a brace from Abel Ferreira on the 71st and 81st minutes completed the scoring.

MAIDEN CITY 3 - 1 GLEBE RANGERS

Glebe went in front after Luke Mitchell scored on the 6thmuinute then Brenan Moore equalised for the city on the 16th minute. This score remained until Anthny McGurk scored on the 45th minute putting the city ahead in the game. Two More goals scored by Brenan Moore 57th and Connor Magee 86th minutes sealed the win for the city.

GROUP B

RATHCOOLE 0 1 St JAMES SWIFTS

This was a keenly contested game which saw the Swifts win by a single goal scored by Francis Nolan on the 40th minute. No doubt the referees report of sending off two Rathcoole players and the verbal abuse he has reported will be a decision for the IFA Disciplinary Committee to administer judgement.

Pitch waterlogged.

McREYNOLDS CUP

GROUP 4

BALLYMONEY UNITED 2 - 0 COOKSTOWN YOUTH

The result of this game was to see who First would be and Second in the section for a place in the quarter finals. At the end it was Ballymoney who finished First thanks to goals score by Luke McConnell 9th minute and Gerard Gillan 17th minutes with the Youth in Second spot.

IFA INTERMEDIATE CUP 4th ROUND

DUNLOY 2 - 2 (aet) STRABANE ATHLETIC (Strabane win 3-2 on Pens)

This was a corker of a game and one Dunloy had in the bag up to the 92nd minute. No goals were scored during the first half then Dermott McErlean put Dunloy in front on the 57th minute followed by him converting a Penalty on the 66th minute to make it two nil. Strabane got back in the game after Gary Merritt scored on the 77th minute. Strabane then went on all-out attack getting the equaliser when Fionn Feherty scored on the 92nd minute taking the game to extra-time. No more goals were scored with penalties being taken and Strabane winning by three conversions to two.

BALLYMENA UTD RES 0 - 3 NEWBUILDINGS UNITED

This win takes the Buildings into the last eight of the competition and hopefully a home draw. No goals were scored during the first half then Matthew Harkin scored on the 56th minute followed by an OG on the 64th minute putting the Buildings in a strong position. Time was almost up when Jack McClelland scored number three on the 90th minute.

JUNIOR DIVISIONS

ONE

KILLYMOON RANGERS 1 - 2 GREENCASTLE ROVERS

Both teams created chances to scored early doors but the only goal at half-time was a penalty converted by Paul McAdorey on the 44th minute puttying Greencastle ahead. The second half was similar as the first with chances missed until Luke Patterson scored for the Olympic on the 84th minute. Time was then running down quickly when up popped Daniel Moore to score the winner for Greencastle on the 93rd minute.

DESERTMARTIN SWIFTS 4 - 2 RATHCOOLE RESERVES

The Swifts were in front after Reuben Bell scored on the 1st minute then an OG on the 10th minute saw the visitors back on level terms. Rathcoole went in front after Ian Hunter scored on the 12th minute and this score remained until Jeff Morton scored for the Swifts on the 34th minute. The Swifts went in front after Kaelum Irvine scored on the 35th minute followed by Jeff Morton scoring his second goal on the 49th minute. A big black mark on the game was the Swifts having a man sent off on the 64th minute and Rathcoole two off on the 64th and 94th minutes.

3rd BALLYCLARE OB 1 - 2 BELFAST ATHLETIC

Third Ballyclare went in front after Isiah Close scored on the 2nd minute and this goal separated the teams until Marin Reilly equalised for the Athletic on the 39th minute. The Athletic then went in front after Aiden Quinn scored on the 57th minute that decided the result of the game.

COOKSTOWN OLYMPIC 2 - 1 INSPIRED COMMUNITY

The Olympic went in front after Aiden Doyle scored on the 21st minute. Inspired came back with Jordan Pires scoring the equalising goal on the 34th minute putting the teams’ level at half-time. There was little between the teams in the second half except the goal scored by Aiden Doyle on the 82nd minute giving the Olympic all three points.

St JAMES SWIFTS RES 1 - 1 GREENISLAND DEV

In very wet conditions an OG on the 10th minute saw the Swifts in front. Half-time was almost reached when Dylan McCord scored the equaliser on the 41st minute. With the conditions becoming worse the Referee stopped proceedings at half-time.

TWO

BALLYCLARE NORTH END 1 - 8 DONEGAL CELTIC RES

North End went in front after Aaron Gilmore scored on the 10th minute then goals scored by Oisin Fegan 13th, Anthony Philpott 22nd, Darren Gallagher 33rd and Damien Fegan 41st minutes saw Celtic in control of the game. Four more goals scored by Darren Gallagher 52nd and 80th, Ryan Steele 62nd and Michael Blaney 82nd minutes completed the scoring.

BALLYNURE OB ‘B’ 6 0- 0 GRANGE RANGERS

The Nure went in front after Ryan Lowry scored on the 20th minute followed by goals scored by Peter Wilson 32nd and Robert Watson 42nd minutes to lead three nil at the break. Three more goals came in the second half scored by Kyle Abernethy 57th Marc Campbell penalty 85th and Kyle Abernethy 90th minutes to complete the scoring in the Derby game. Grange also had a man sent off on the 84th minute

RED STAR 7 - 0 NORTH BALLYMENA RANGERS

The major surprise in this game was no goals had been scored at half-time. This change after Darren Nelson scored for the Star on the 47th minute then the floodgates opened. Six more goals were scored by Bryan McAllister 49th, Andrew Hall 55th, Noel O’Connor 57th, Lloyd Watters 67 and 88th, and Rihcard McNally 82nd minutes.

GREENCASTLE ROVERS II 8 - 3 NEWINGTON RANGERS

The Castle was leading by Six goals at half-time scored by Ryan Cleary on the 1st and 21st, Caolan McMullan 11th, 24th and 29th, and Sean McKeown 41st minutes. Niall Southam and Caolan McMullan scored another two goals on the 49th and 57th minutes. Rangers came back with three goals scored Lindsay Carroll on the 65th and 86th minute and Alexander Kerr on the 84th minute.

WELLINGTON REC II 5 - 0 AHOGHILL THISTLE DEV

A single goal scored by Lewis Henry on the 9th minute separated the teams at half-time. In the second half the Rec went on to score four more goals through Jonathan Norrell 55th, Callum McLean 62nd, Lewis Henry 70th and Richard Wilson 88th minutes without reply.
