BALLYMENA and PROVINCIAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Week-ending Saturday 16th September 2023

The Results on Saturday saw Five Intermediate teams progress to the 3rd Round of the Irish Cup but unfortunately, we lost another Three Teams.

In the IFA Junior Cup Four teams progressed to the 2nd Round but Three teams lost out in their games.

Saturday next will see no league games played in the Intermediate League as Sixteen are playing in the 1st Round of the IFA Intermediate Cup.

In the Junior games Nine teams are playing in the CAFA Junior Shield and One in the Mid-Ulster Shield 1st Round games thus reducing the number of League games being scheduled.

LEAGUE

NEWTOWNE 4 0 BALLYNURE OB

Newtowne went I front after Harry Mclaughlin scored on the 9th minute then had to wait until Daniel Boyle scored their second goal on the 53rd minute. Daniel Boyle scored his second goal on the 56th minute followed by Peter Boyle completing the scoring on the 59th minute. Referee Mr Kyle Barr

MAIDEN CITY 3 0 COOKSTOWN YOUTH

The City went in front after Stephen Duffy scored on the 18th minute but it was in the 53rd minute when Luke Curry scored their second goal. Time was then in the 89th minute when Stephen Duffy scored his second and last goal in the game. Referee Mr Joseph Mullan

BELFAST CELTIC 1 2 DUNLOY

Celtic went in front after Liam Markey scored on the 11 minute then had man sent off on the 32nd minute. Dunloy got back on level terms after Ciaran Campbell converted a penalty on the 35th minute. Dunloy went on to get the all-important third goal scored by Dermott McErlean on the 63rd minute to win the game.

WAKEHURST 3 4 St JAMES SWIFTS

The Swifts took the lead after Eamon Gallagher scored on the 4th minute then Wakehurst replied with Jonathan Hanlon scoring on the 25th minute followed by Leon Patton converting a penalty on the 46th minute. The Swifts Jamie Sharvin scored a brace of goals on the 53rd and 57th minutes before Ciaran Hylands scored number four on the 65th minute. Wakehurst got back in the game after Cameron Neilly scored on the 84th minute then time ran out on them. Referee Mr Marty Woods

IRISH CUP 2nd ROUND

DONEGAL CELTIC 0 1 CRUMLIN STAR

Celtic were slightly unfortunate not to get a penalty shoot-out in this game as it was an own goal conceded in the 104th minute that lost them the game in extra time.

RATHCOOLE 0 1 BALLYMONEYUNITED

A single goal was the decider in this game with the winning goal being scored by Kyle Crawford for the Toon on the 16th minute. Rathcoole will remember the game having two men sent off on the 67th and 84th minutes.

STRBANE ATHLETIC 6 0 CRAIGAVON CITY

The home side took control of this game after Jonathan Robb scored on the 5th minute. Five more goals followed scored by Darren McMonagle 10th, Liam McMenamin 29th, Aodhan Doherty 47th, Simon McGlynn 50th and Warner Mullen 59th without reply.

St MARYS 2 3 (aet) GLEBE RANGERS

Saint Marys went in front after Rafael Tavares scored on the 2nd minute and held this lead until Scott McDonald equalised for Glebe on the 47th minute. St Marys went in front again after Gabriel Costa scored on the 94th minute then n own goal on the 106th minute saw Glebe back level. Gleb went in front after Harry Kirkpatrick scored on the 118th minute to win the game.

DROMORE AMATEURS 2 7 NEWBUILDINGS UNITED

Newbuildings went in front after Jack Bradley scored on the 22nd minute then were two nil up after Matthew Stephenson scored on the 36th minute. An own goal made it three nil on the 38th minute. The home side got a goal back after Stuart Cairns scored on the 44th minute. Matthew Harkin scored for Buildings on the 75th minute then Louis Simpson scored for the home side on the 80th minute. A second own goal on the 86th minute and Conor Boreland scoring on the 90th minute for the Buildings completed the scoring on the day.

AQUINAS 3 0 CHIMNEY CORNER

The Corner went in front after Joshua Logan scored on the 42nd minute. Niall Atkinson equalised on the 47h minute followed by Jack Kelly scoring for the home side on the 65th minute. time was running out when Conor Leonard sealed the win by scoring on the 81st minute.

BALLYNAHINCH UNITED 0 3 WELLINGTON REC

No goals were scored until James Wylie scored for Welly Rec on the 43rd minutes this being followed by Christopher Guiller scoring on the 45th minute. The Rec sealed the win after James Wylie scored his second goal in the game on the 62nd minute.

TOBERMORE UNITED 3 3 (aet) DESERTMARTIN (Tobermore win 5-4 on Pens)

This was a local derby which saw the Martins go in front after Kaelum Irvine scored on the 14th minute. Gary Keane scored on the 44th minute putting the team’s level. Kaelum Irvine scored his second goal on the 46th minute putting the Martins back in front. Ciaran McKeever scored for Tobermore on the 56th minute taking the game to extra time. Danny McIlhatton scored for Tobermore on the 105tth minute and Daniel Robinson equalised for the Martins. Penalties were then taken with Tobermore winning by Five to Four.

ONE

COOKSTOWN OLYMPIC 5 0 SOFIA FARMER

The Olympic went three goals ahead with Martin McCracken scoring all three on the 7th, 48th and 52nd minutes. Martin McCracken then scored his fourth goal in the game on the 61st minute before Connor Donnelly scored on the 69th minute. Referee Mr Colin Rainey

St JAMES SWIFTS Res 3 2 MALONEYS

Maloneys went in front after Samuel Duff scored on the 21st minute then Martin McDonald replied for the Swifts on the 33rd minute. Maloneys went in front for a second time after Ryan Stewart scored on the 56th minute before Martin McDonald completed his hat-trick with a brace of goals on the 59th and 60th minutes. Referee Mr Dean McLernon

3rd BALLYCLARE OB 3 2 GREENISLAND DEVELOPMENT

No goals were scored before half-time then the Old Boys went three goals in front scored by Jack Buckley on the 68th, Owen Hall 74th and a penalty converted by Jak Buckley on the 79th minutes. The Islanders never gave up getting a brace of goals scored by Ben McAllister on the 80th and a penalty on the94th minute. The Old Boys then had man sent off on the 97th minute. INSPIRED COMMUNITY 1 4 RATHCOOLE RESERVES

Rathcoole went in front after Ian Hunter scored on the 27th minute then saw David Bamidele score the equaliser on the 53rd minute. Rathcoole went in front again when Mark Lee Jeffers scored on the 37th minute and sealed the win with goals scored by Adrian Dodds 69th and Taylor Marks 86th minutes.

AHOGHILL THISTLE DEV 2 3 RED STAR

Ahoghill went two goals in front through an own goal on 15th and Lewis McDonald scoring on the 28th minutes. The Star got back in the game after Lloyd Watters scored on the 37th minute reducing the deficit at half-time. The Star went all out for the equaliser in the second half and a brace of goals scored by Matthew McFaul on the 70th and 90th minutes saw them take the win. Referee Mr Lewis Allison

BALLYCLARE NORTH END 0 6 NEWINGTON RANGERS

Newington went two goals in front after Jeffrey Withers scored a brace of goals on the 12th and 25th minutes. Christopher Steele made it three nil on the 36th minute before half-time. The visitors went on to score three more goals through Jordan Withers 70th, Lindsay Carroll 72nd and Brooklyn Allen 75th minutes.

HIGHTOWN ATHLETIC 4 2 GRANGE RANGERS

Grange went in front after Paul Martin scored on the 11th minute then Martin Doherty equalised on the 39th minute. Grange went in front for a second time after Darren Hamilton scored on the 44th minute. Hightown came back strongly with Jason McFadden scoring on the 52nd and 68th minutes and a goal scored by Aaron McKeown sandwiched in between on the 59th minute. Referee Mr Gerard McAuley

GREENCASTLE ROVERS II 0 6 DONEGAL CELTIC RESERVES

Celtic were in front after Daire McManus scored on the 11th minute followed by Goals scored by Anthony Philpott 13th, Daire McManus 31st minutes. Anthony Philpott scored again on the 38th and 46th minutes followed by Ciaran Lundy on the 64th minute. Referee Mr Alan McWhirter

WELLINGTON REC II 2 0 BELFAST CELTIC RESERVES

No goals had been scored when each team had a man sent off on the 36th minute for Celtic and 48th minute for Wellington. Wellington went on to score two goals through Ricky Montgomery 68th and Jack McKenna 80th minutes to take all three points. Referee Mr David Hanna
