BALLYMENA and PROVINCIAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE

MATCH REPORTS

Week-ending Saturday 7th October 2023

Saturday was a very good day for Desertmartin and Newbuildings United in reaching the Semi-finals of the North-West Craig Memorial Cup.

The semi-finals are Limavady United v Desertmartin and Newbuildings United v Portstewart to be played on November 11th, 2023.

Saturday was also a good day for Four of our junior teams who progress to the 3rd Round of the IFA Junior Cup namely: Belfast Athletic, Greencastle Rovers, Killymoon Rangers

Please Note: Due to Northern Ireland being at home in an International, no games are scheduled for Saturday 14th October as the games would have to be kicked off before 11.00am on the Day.

INTERMEDIATE

LEAGUE

CHIMNEY CORNER 0 - 4 GLEBE RANGERS

A hat-trick from Joshia Elliott with goals scored on the 2nd, 11th and 26th minutes saw Glebe three goals clear at half-time. The second half saw Corner more in the game, but the only goal was scored for Glebe by Le Lynn on the 84th minute.

WELLINGTON REC 4 - 2 COOKSTOWN YOUTH

The Rec were soon two goals in front after Graham Kennedy scored on the 8th minute followed by James Wylie scoring on the 11th minute. The Youth hit back with Mark Megarry scoring on the 37th minute then were level after Callum Campbell scored on the 60th minute. Time was beginning to run down when Christoher Guiller scored for the Rec on the 74th minute then sealed the win when Daniel McIlroy scored on the 92nd minute.

STRABANE ATHLETIC 3 - 1 DUNLOY

This was a very close game until Declan Sharkey scored for Strabane on the 72nd minute followed by Daniel Doran scoring on the 77th minute putting the home side two goals clear. Strabane went three goals clear after Declan Sharkey scored his second goal on the 85th minute. Dunloy never gave up getting a goal scored by Conal McAuley scoring for Dunloy on the 93rd minute.

St JAMES SWIFTS 5 - 0 BRANTWOOD

St James went in front after Eugene Gallagher converted a penalty on the 13th minute and this goal separated the teams until Ciaran Hylands scored on the 30th minute. Three more goals followed this scored by Conal Burns 63rd and 68th and Callum Muckian 76th minutes.

BALLYMONEY UNITED 3 - 1 BELFAST CELTIC

There was little to choose between the teams during the first forty-five minutes with no goals scored. An own goal conceded by Celtic saw the Toon go in front on the 55th minute followed by a brace of goals scored by Matthew Knight on the 58th and 61st minute increasing the lead to Three. Celtic hit back with Barry Webb scoring on the 64th minute only to see Reece Watton scored a brace for the Toon on the 70th and 93rd minutes.

RATHCOOLE 1 - 1 WAKEHURST

This was a very closely contested game for the entire match. Rathcoole were in front at half-time through a goal scored by Josh McGreevey on the 30th minute. Wakehurst went all out for the equaliser but had to with until the 78th minute when Callum Ross scored give the teams a point each at the end.

NORTH-WEST CRAIG MEMORIAL CUP QUARTER FINALS

NEWBUILDINGS UNITED 4 - 3 COLERAINE RESERVES

Newbuildings got off to a great start with Stephen Curry scoring on the 2nd minute. This goal separated the teams until Matthew Lynch scored a second goal for Newbuildings on the 45th minute. The Reserves got back in the game after Martin Leo Kirk scored on the 47th minute then the home side were two goals ahead again after Matthew Pierce scored on the 58th minute. The Reserves got back on level terms after Joshua Callaghan scored on the 62nd minute and converted a penalty on the 89th minute. Play was going into stoppage time when Jack Bradley hit home the winner for Newbuilding on the 90th minute.

DESERTMARTIN 5 - 3 MAIDEN CITY

The Martins drew first blood in this game with David Dripps scoring on the 18th minute. City drew level after Bobby Sweeney scored on the 24th minute then David Dripps replied with his second goal on the 34th minute. City were back on level terms again after Bobby Sweeney scored his second goal on the 36th minute. The Martins went on to score three more goals through Eamon Og McAllister on the 59th minute, Jordan Hassan 66th minute and Eamon Og McAllister again on the 70th minute. The game was then in the 90th minutes when Dylan Mooney scored for the City.

JUNIOR DIVISION

ONE

COOKSTOWN OLYMPIC 3 - 2 RATHCOOLE RESERVES

Rathcoole shot into an early two goal lead with goals scored by Ian Hunter 5th and Adam Dodds 8th minutes. The Olympic got back into the game before half-time with goals scored by Danny McElhatton 39th and Aiden Doyle 42nd minutes. The Olympic went in front after Connor Donnelly scored on the 55th minute and at the end of the game this was the winning goal. Referee Mr Colin Norrell

MALONEYS 3 - 2 DESERTMARTIN SWIFTS

Maloneys went two goals clear with goals scored by Jackson Crymble on the 6th and 25th minutes. The Swifts came back to level the game with goals scored by Fionn McGuigan and Reuben Bell on the 38th and 65th minutes. The teams were still locked together when stoppage time was being played then Stephen James McCarroll scored the winners for Maloneys on the 94th minute.

TWO

NEWINGTON RANGERS 7 - 5 RED STAR

Newington went Five goals clear scored by Jason Hawthorne 3rd, Jordan Withers 26th, Lindsay Carroll Penalty 33rd, Jason Hawthorne 49th and Raymond Lusty 54th minutes. Red Star hit back with Lloyd Watters Penalty 55th, Nathan Banks 60th, Lloyd Watters 66th and 75th minutes. Lindsay Carroll scored a sixth for the home side on the 79th minute then Ryan Lewis scored for the Star on the 83rd minute. Lindsay Carroll completed the scoring on the 88th minute. The One Black mark on the game being Rangers had a man sent off on the 85th and Star Two men off on the 85th and 88th minutes.

NORTH BELFAST UNITED 9 - 3 AHOGHILL THISTLE DEVELOPMENT

The North went in front after Brooklyn Duncan scored on the 7th minute then Ian Warwick equalised for Thistle on the 39th minute. Adam Cairns put North back in front on the 50th minute then Jamie Archer equalised for Thistle seconds later on the 50th minute. The North then went Four goals clear scored by Adam Cairns 55th, Daniel McKee 60th, Dan McQuillan 63rd and Adam Wright 67th minutes. Both teams then scored on the 71st minute Chris Jamison for Thistle and Nathan Mullan for North. North went on to score Two more goals by Dykan Lemaheiu 75th and Nathan Mullan 78th minutes.

HIGHTOWN ATHLETIC 1 - 2 WELLINGTON REC II

After a steady start by both teams a penalty converted by Lewis Henry on the 27th minute saw the Rec go in front and at half-time this goal separated the teams. The Rec went two goals clear after Jonathan Norrell scored on the 49th minute. The Athletic never gave up getting back in the game when Jordan Byrne scored on the 76th minute but they then failed to get the equaliser.
