BALLYMENA and PROVINCIAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE
MATCH REPORTS
SATURDAY 5th AUGUST 2023
The season started off on Saturday with two league games and three games played in the CAFA Steel & Sons Cup 1st Round.
On the league front Wellington Rec and Ballymoney United recorded wins at the expense of Desertmartin and Rathcoole.
Saturday 12th will see two Intermediate league games while twelve teams will kick off in the Irish Cup 1st Round.

INTERMEDIATE
DESERTMARTIN 1 - 3 WELLINGTON REC
The Martins went in front after Jonathan McLean scored on the 19th minute then Graham Ervine equalised for the Rec on the 26th minute. After this there was little between the teams until Jonathan McManus scored for the Rec on the 63rd minute. The Martins chased the equaliser after this, but the Rec ensured the win when Christiopher Guiller scored goal number three on the 91st minute.

RATHCOOLE 0 - 3 BALLYMONEY UNITED
Ballymoney took an early lead after Kyle Crawford scored on the 5th minute with this goal separating the teams until Kyle Crawford scored his second goal on the 30th minute. Rathcoole tried hard to get back into the game then on the 72nd minute Gerald Gillan scored the killer third goal for Ballymoney on the 72nd minute.

CAFA STEEL & SONS CUP 1st ROUND
WAKEHURST 1 - 2 KILMORE REC
There was little to choose between the teams during the first half with no goals scored at the break. Wakehurst then went in front after ConNor Doherty scored on the 50th minute only to see Caolan Conlon sore the equaliser on the 53rd minute. Time was beginning to run down when Anton McGrattan scored for Kilmore on the 71st minute and this remained until full time though Wakehurst missed a penalty with minutes of normal time to go.
GLEBE RANGERS 1 - 0 MALACHIANS FC
This game was a mid-field battle with few good clear chances created around both goal areas. Glebe got the all-important goal to win the game after Lee Gault scored on the 36th minute without reply.
BANGOR AMATEURS 4 - 0 BALLYNURE OB
The difference between the teams was in finishing off the moves created and in this Bangor were more adept than Ballynure with Mark Cooling scoring on the 47th minute followed by Jack Shaw 60th, Jack Evans 65th and Curtis Shaw 67th minutes.
