CLUB HISTORY

Killymoon Rangers Football Club currently play in the Professionally Governed Ballymena & Provincial Football League. All Member Clubs are affiliated to and operate under the Professional Rules and Constitution of the Irish Football Association.

Killymoon Rangers were established in 1971 and is the oldest football club in Cookstown by a considerable number of years, with over 50 years of history. Originally formed to play in the Cookstown Street League, Killymoon joined the Mid Ulster League soon after. In July 2008 they were promoted to the IFA Championship. The club played in Championship 1 and Championship 2 of the Irish League for 6 consecutive seasons. During this time Killymoon played and picked up wins against teams like Portadown, Lurgan Celtic, Glentoran, Ballinmallard, Queens, Carrick Rangers, H&W Welders, Limavady to name but a few. The club also played Linfield at the National Stadium Windsor Park in the Irish Cup, and hosted 1000+ Glentoran fans in Cookstown, again in the Irish Cup.

In 2014, Killymoon were relegated to the Ballymena & Provincial Intermediate Football League, where they reached the semi-final of a league cup before being beaten in extra time by Ballynure FC.

In 2017/18, Killymoon opted to play in Junior Division 2 rather than the Intermediate League, with the objective of rebuilding and bringing some silverware to the club. This move proved to be very successful, the club had an enjoyable season, winning the league, and promotion from Division 2, the club also reached a Cup Final where over 200 fans attended in Antrim.

In the year that followed Killymoon First Team finished joint top of Division 1, and also relaunched its reserve team who went on to won their respective league and a league cup in the process. A really successful year for the club, which coincidentally was the clubs 50th year anniversary.

Killymoon Rangers continues to go from strength to strength, and has aspirations to move back into Intermediate football if the upcoming seasons proves as successful as last season. The professionalism of the club and/off the field over the last 50 years, was noted throughout our 50th Anniversary season by many local councillors, lord mayors, opposing football professionals, and many professional club officials across Northern Ireland. We thank everyone for the continued support, and look forward to many years of footballing enjoyment to come.
