Week-ending Saturday 23rd March 2024

The time of mid-week games is upon us with a number of teams almost finished with league game but some others have double figures of games left to play.

It is planned to introduce mid-week games from Monday 8th April onwards as teams with Cup and League games will require to play a number of mid-week games before the end of May.

INTERMEDIATE

LEAGUE

Group A

CHIMNEY CORNER 2 - 4 WELLINGTON REC

The visitors were in front on the 1st minute when Samuel Irvine scored. Three more goals followed for the Rec scored by Christopher Guiller 15th, Elliott Bagshaw 46th and Ciaran Magill 58th minutes. The Corner then hit back with goals scored by Leon Carley 60th and Nico Dunlop 62nd minute but unfortunately no more goals followed.

NEWTOWNE 3 - 4 GLEBE RANGERS

Newtowne went in front after Conor Logue scored on the 1st minute then Harry Kirkpatrick equalised on the 23rd minute. Conor Logue scored his second goal on the 42nd minute then Newtowne had a an sent off on the 45th minute. Gleb hit back with Scott Douglas scoring on the 56th minute and a brace from Harry Kirkpatrick on the 70th and 74th minutes to complete his hat-trick. Newtowne got a second goal scored by Eunan Kelly on the 90th minute and a second man sent off on the 94th minute.

STRABANE ATHLETIC 2 - 1 RATHCOOLE

The Athletic went in front after Darren McMonagle scored on the 30th minute and added to this when Warner Mullen scored on the 47th minute before half-time. The second half saw Rathcoole well in the game and they got a goal back when Kai Hefferon scored on the 85th minute. Referee Mr Kyle Barr

O’Gorman Cup Prelim Round

St JAMES SWIFTS 2 - 1 BELFAST CELTIC

Clear chances to scored had to be earned in this game which saw Celtic take the lead after Matthew Donnelly scored on the 37th minute. Celtic had a man sent off on the 79th minute then conceded an own goal on the 86th minute. Extra-time was on the horizon when the Swifts were awarded a penalty which Eugen Gallagher converted on the 92nd minute to claim the win.

O’Gorman Cup 2nd Round

MAIDEN CITY 3 - 2 (aet) DONEGAL CELTIC

City went in front after Aaron McGurk scored on the 35th minute then were two ahead after Connor McGee scored on the 69th minute. Celtic hit back with Shay Burns scoring on the 79th minute then on the 92nd minute City conceded an own goal to send the game into extra-time. Celtic had a man sent off on the 97th minute and a minute later Brenen Moore scored what proved to be the winning goal for City.

NEWBUILDINGS UNITED 3 - 1 COOKSTOWN YOUTH

Newbuidlings went two goals clear after Stephen Curry scored a brace of goals on the 2nd and 19th minutes. The Youth task was made harder as they had a man sent off on the 14th minute. The Youth got a goal back after Steven Arrell scored on the 66th minute but with time running out Jack Magee sealed the win for the home side after scoring on the 87th minute.

JUNIOR DIVISIONS

ONE

DESERTMARTIN SWIFTS 3 - 0 COOKSTOWN OLYMPIC

This game was a personal triumph for the Swifts player Reuben Bell who scored all three goals on the 55th, 73rd and 91st minutes.

RATHCOOLE RESERVES 1 - 2 GREENISLAND DEV

The Islanders went in front after Ben McAlister scored on the 24th minute and were two in front after Mark McKeown scored on the 53rd minute. Rathcoole got back in the game after David Kernohan scored on the 63rd minute but then had man sent off on the 79th minute. No more goals followed to the final whistle.

NORTH BELFAST UNITED 3 - 0 GRANGE RANGERS

United went in front after Brooklyn Duncan scored on the 20th minute followed by Thomas Marley scoring their second goal on the 44th minute. United ensured the win after Nathan Mullan scored goal number three on the 68th minute.

WELLINGTON REC II 4 - 2 HIGHTOWN ATHLETIC

The Athletic were in front after Darragh Mooney scored on the 12th minute then the Rec replied with goals scored by Richard Wilson 24th and Jamie Magill 44th minutes. The Rec increased their lead after Ryan Hill scored on the 59th minute followed by Nathan Johnston converting a penalty for Athletic on the 63rd minute. Richard Wilson sealed the win for the Rec scoring his second goal on the 65th minute.

GREENCASTLE ROVERS II 3 - 1 LOUGHSIDE

The Rovers went in front after Conor McMullan scored on the 19th minute then Leigh McCullough equalised for Loughside on the 34th minute putting the team’s level at half-time. The Rovers went on to score two more goals in the second half through Martin Coyle 73rd and Sean Derry 90th minutes.

2ndt Round

3rd BALLYCLARE OB 1 - 2 (aet) AHOGHILL THISTLE DEV

The first goal in the game was scored by William Barr on the 60th minute followed by Justin Forsythe equalising on the 75th minute. The Old Boys had a man sent off on the 92nd minute and extra time was then played with Evan Johnston scoring what proved to be the winning goal for Thistle on the 110th minute. With the final whistle blown a skirmish broke out among some players which no doubt will see sanctions imposed by the County Antrim Disciplinary Committee.

Quarter Final

KILLYMOON RANGERS 5 - 5 (aet) BELFAST ATHLETIC

(Killymoon Rangers with 8-7 penalties)

Killymoon went in front after Matthew McMenemy scored on the 4th minute then Jonathan O’Neil equalised for Athletic on the 17th minute. Matthew McMenemy scored his second goal on the 18th minute before goals scored by Sean Corr 26th and Jamie Delayney 36th minutes putting Athletic ahead. Killymoon got back level after Eoin Gallagher scored on the 45th minute then Jamie Delayney put Athletic back in front on the 54th minute. Time was almost up when Matthew McMenemy converted a penalty for Killymoon on the 93rd minute taking the game into extra-time. Mark McMenemy with his fourth goal put Killymoon ahead followed by Martin Reilly levelled the game taking it to penalties which Killymoon won 8-7.

Linda Welshman Memorial Cup 1st Round

RED STAR 4 - 3 DONEGAL CELTIC RES

The Star went in front after Andrew Hall scored on the 4th minute then Jay Devenney equalised on the 20th minute. The Star went two goals clear scored by Lloyd Watters 28th and Ryan Lewis 39th minutes. Celtic hit back with Jack Best scoring on the 57th minute and Darren Gallagher on the 71st minute. Extra time was looming when Loyd Watters hit home the winner on the 92nd minute.

INSPIRED COMMUNITY 3 1 BELFAST CELTIC RES

Inspired went in front after Debrerechi Okwor scored on the 12th minute. This goal separated the teams until Sean O’Halloran equalised on the 73rd minute. Edson Cunha put Inspired back in front on the 84th minute followed by Deberechi Okwor scoring his second goal on the 86th minute sealing the win.
