SATURDAY 9th April 2022

Greencastle Rovers won the Junior Division One Title on Saturday after drawing their game 0-0 at Rathcoole. Rathcoole finish in the runners-up spot.

In Junior Division Two the race is between Ahoghill Thistle Development and Belfast Athletic for the top spot. The Thistle can accumulate 42 points with one game left and the Athletic can accumulate 48 points with five games left to play.

There could be a hold up in the Intermediate Division due to an Investigation into a Belfast Celtic player Registration.

A similar situation could be a hold up in the McReynolds Cup, O’Gorman Cup and Crawford Cup Competitions due to an Investigation into a Desertmartin Player Registration.

Teams please note: The Next Bi-Monthly League meeting will be held in the Chimney Corner Social Club on Monday 11th April 2022.

INTERMEDIATE

LEAGUE GAMES

BELFAST CELTIC 1 - 2 WAKEHURST

Wakehurst got off to a flying start in this game with Jason Paul putting them ahead on the 7th minute. Things got better for Wakehurst after Robert McCluney put them two goals in front on the 11th minute and this score remained at half-time. Wakehurst kept their play going and it was on the 78th minute when Joshua Lynch converted a penalty that Celtic got back into the game. Time was then running out when Celtic had a man sent off on the 88th minute and Wakehurst took maximum Points.

BALLYMONEY UNITED 0 - 0 GLEBE RANGERS

It was honours even after this derby game which saw both teams keep it very tight in defence thus making it difficult to score. At the end, the bragging rights were shared.

COOKSTOWN YOUTH 5 - 1 BALLYNURE OB

One goal scored by Paul Stewart for the Youth on the 35th minute separated the teams at half-time. Three more goals scored by James Leslie 55th, Steven Arrell 59th and Caleb Robb 63rd minutes saw the Youth four goals clear. James Leslie made it five on the 76th minute before Mark Kilburn scored a consolation goal for Ballynure on the 79th minute.

BRANTWOOD 2 - 1 DESERTMARTIN

Then Martins went in front after Connor Stewart scored on the 24th minute then Colin McBride equalised for Brantwood on the 31st minute putting the team’s level at the break. Brantwood went in front after Ricky MacAuley scored on the 51st minute and at the final whistle this goal decided the result.

DONEGAL CELTIC 2 - 1 CHIMNEY CORNER

After a steady start to the game by both teams Corner went in front after Scott Cummings scored on the 35th minute and held time lead at half-time. Celtic got back on level terms after James Larkin scored on the 74th minute. Celtic got a second goal scored by Anthony Philpott on the 82nd minute which was the winning goal.

McREYNOLDS CUP 2nd ROUND

COAGH UNITED 5 - 4 DUNLOY

Goals and penalty kicks were the order of the day in this game. Coagh went in front after Mark Kelly scored on the 2nd minute then Karl Fitzpatrick replied for Dunloy on the 9th minute. Coagh went two goals ahead after Aaron Campbell and Steven Hogshaw scored on the 11th and 20th minutes. Karl Fitzpatrick scored his second goal on the 53rd minute then followed this converting two penalties on the 63rd and 70th minute putting Dunloy ahead. Aaron Cam0bell got the equaliser for Coagh from the penalty spot on the 82nd minute followed by the winning goal scored by Pater Bell on the 88th minute.

JUNIOR DIVISIONS

LEAGUE ONE

KILLYMON RANGERS 1 - 2 St JAMES SWIFTS RESERVES

Killymoon went in front after Richard Donaghy scored on the 23rd minute and this goal separated the teams until Aaron Smyth equalised for St James on the 44th minute. In the second half both teams created a number of good chances but the only one was taken when Aaron Smyth scored his second goal in the game on the 59th minute.

RATHCOOLE 0 - 0 GREENCASTLE ROVERS

Greencastle went into the game knowing a point would see them crowned champions in their First season in the league. Chances came and went in a very competitive game with the only black mark being Rathcoole having two men sent off on the 97th and 98th minutes.

WOODLANDS 5 - 3 BRANTWOOD RESERVES

Woodlands went in front after Benjamin Morrison scored on the 6th minute then Sunday Victor and Clark Leighton replied for Brantwood scoring on the 12th and15th minutes. Stephen Grant equalised for Woodlands on the 22nd minute then goals scored by Ross Oliver 63rd, Jonny Parkes 67th and Russell Stockman 76th minutes saw Woodlands pull clear. Brantwood got a goal back after Steven McCormick scored on the 83rd minute but three sending offs muddied a very good game with Woodlands a man off on the 85th minute and Brantwood two men off on the 67th and 85th minutes.

TWO

AHOGHILL THISTLE DEV 11 - 1 REDSTAR

The Thistle went in at half-time leading by goals scored by Matthew Lorimer 20th and 37th minutes, Mark Butler 34th and 35th minutes, Dylan Robinson 40th and Robbie McGaughey 43rd minutes. More goals were scored for the Thistle by Mark Butler 62nd, Dane Archer 76 and 84th, Mark Lorimer 77th and Denver Thompson 84th minutes with Nathan Banks scoring for the Star on the 90th minute.

LOUGHSIDE 2 - 1 NEWINGTON RANGERS

Loughside went in front after Morgan Lapworth scored on the 20th minute then Lee Magill equalised for the Rangers on the 35th minute. At half-time the teams were still level then on the 76th minute Samuel Dykes scored what proved to be the winning goal for Loughside.

GRANGE RANGERS 3 - 0 68th NEWTOWNABBEY OB

Grange went in front after Curtis Gilmore scored on the 6th minute followed by Craig Boston scoring a second for Grange on the 35th minute. The second half saw Grange sit on their two-goal lead which became three after Patrick Moore scored on the 87th minute.

LINDA WELSHMAN MEMORIAL CUP 2nd ROUND

2nd LEG

DESERTMARTIN SWIFTS 3 - 0 BALLYCLARE NORTH END

The Martins took the lead after Daniel Robinson scored on the 5th minute then added a second when the same played scored on the 32nd minute. Things got better for the Martins after Gary Brown scored a third goal on the 40th minute to lead by three at the break. The second half saw the Martins defend their lead claiming a semi-final spot where they will meet Ahoghill Thistle Development.

SEMI FINAL

BELFAST ATHLETIC 2 - 0 GREENISLAND III

Though both teams created a number of good chances no goals were scored at half-time. Things changed in the second half with Martin Begley scoring for the Athletic on the 44th minute followed by David Finlay scoring on the 51st minute which gives the Athletic a two-goal advantage going into the second leg.
